About the Directory of Adult & Community Learning

By developing this directory, the Lifelong Learning Council Queensland has responded to the need expressed in many fora over recent years regarding having a centralised source of information about learning opportunities in the community. While a number of other databases exist, such as the NTIS, these frequently cover accredited training, or a specific type of organization, only.

The database has been developed with the intention that it will have many uses, such as:

  • A community development / learning community development tool
    • The directory can collect information about many of the courses and learning opportunities offered in a locality, by individuals, organizations, government agencies and enterprises.
    • The directory is searchable by suburb / town or shire for the organizations and individuals offering courses and other learning opportunities. This offers networking opportunities
    • The information collected in the directory allows for the identification of gaps and duplication of learning opportunities. This offers communities and opportunity to be more effective in meeting learning and developmental needs.
  • An organisational promotion tool
    • The directory collects information that enables an organization to be contacted with regard to the learning opportunities offered.
  • A tool to support individual adult and community educators, trainers, teachers, tutors and mentors
    • Individuals can enter the teaching, training, tutoring and/or mentoring skills they have on offer. This can be used to promote the persons offerings in a local community.

To be successful in our endeavour to become a comprehensive, up-to-date database is dependent on you, as our users. It will take time and lots of word-of-mouth promotion amongst members of the community before we reach critical mass. We need you to let everyone know, and to encourage organization and individual adult and community educators to enter their information and keep it up to date.
